We want everyone to be able to use this site, whatever device or assistive technology they use.

What we have done

Built to WCAG 2.2 level AA. In practice:

• Every colour combination has been measured for contrast, and several were darkened from the original design where they fell short.
• Everything you can do with a mouse you can do with a keyboard, including turning each brush around to see its bristles.
• Focused elements are never hidden behind the sticky header or the chapter bar.
• Every interactive target is at least 24 by 24 pixels.
• Images carry descriptive alternative text; decorative shapes are hidden from screen readers.
• The site respects your system setting if you have asked for less motion.
• Text reflows without a horizontal scrollbar down to 320 pixels wide.

How we test

Automated checks run on every change. But automated tools catch only part of it — none of the nine criteria added in WCAG 2.2 can be fully automated — so we also test by keyboard, by hand, and by measuring the rendered page.

Where we fall short

• Some brush photographs may look soft on very high-density screens. Higher-resolution artwork is in progress.
• We have not yet tested with every combination of screen reader and browser.
